Recovery After Thyroid Surgery
Most patients recover quickly from thyroid surgery. This page explains what to expect day by day, what to watch for and when to call.
A soft diet, voice rest, prescribed calcium and hormone tablets where needed, and gentle wound care are the cornerstones. Most patients return to office work in about a week.
First Days
Same-day mobilisation, a soft diet and simple pain relief are usual. Voice may feel tired; this normally improves quickly.
First Weeks
The wound continues to settle, scar massage is started after a week or two, and hormone and calcium doses are adjusted by blood tests.
